Welcome Class of 2020
Q & A
WiHOW Q - WHAT IS GRADUATION GOING TO LOOK LIKED?
A - On Friday June 19th, BHS Graduates and their Families will come to BHS at a scheduled time. They will park in the BHS Parking lot and proceed to the back of the school. They will be met by a teacher and enter the school when it is time. The Graduate will proceed towards the stage while the Family will proceed into the theater. The school will call the graduates name out as well as any awards or recognition (Honours or Honours with Distinction). The graduate will walk across the stage and receive their diploma from the principal. The family will have an opportunity to take a picture. BHS is hoping to have a photographer take a picture of the graduate receiving their diploma currently. The graduate will walk off the stage and meet up with their family. They will then proceed to the St John Street Lobby. The lobby will be divided into two areas. The first will be a photo area where a BHS photographer will take a picture of the grad and of the grad with their family. The second area will be an opportunity for the grad and family to snap a few quick pictures themselves.
Q - CAN I COME WITH OTHER GRADUATES?
A- Unfortunately, due to the circumstances we could not allow grads to come together with their friends (other grads) as it limits the number of people we can have in our areas. Under the current state we are only allowed 10 people together in one area. Even if this number moves to 50 people, staff needs to be counted in this number and families would therefore be very limited to the number of people they could bring with them. Therefore, the decision was made to have the graduates come in some type of order to receive their diplomas with their family only.
Q - DO WE NEED TO ARRANGE OURSELVES OUTSIDE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE IN PROPER ORDER?
A - No, teachers will be on hand to guide you into the school as we will have waiting areas in the school as well as outside. As long as you come during your scheduled time ever thing will work. We are expecting the process to run smooth without a lot of delays and we have designated waiting area that will keep the physical distancing rules in place.
Q HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN I BRING WITH ME?
A - Currently we do not know this answer. It will depend upon what level we are on (Orange or Yellow). Staff also has to be taken into consideration when the numbers are decided. We are saying that all graduates can have 4 not counting the grad right now. As we move closer to graduation, we hope that we can increase this number.
Q - WHERE WILL GRADS ENTER THE SCHOOL AND WHERE WILL THEY LEAVE THE SCHOOL?
A - Grads and family will park in the Main BHS parking lot and walk to the back of the school. You will be entering the back of the school all together. Grads and their families will leave the school from the main student area on St. John Street. We ask that Grads and family leave the parking lot ASAP as our ceremony will continue throughout the day.
Q - ONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE IN A WHEELCHAIR. HOW DO WE GET THEM ACCESS TO THE THEATER?
A - If you have a family member in a wheelchair please contact Jamie MacLaggan at [email protected] and he will make arrangements with you.
Q - DO I HAVE TO COME TO GRADUATION?
A - The answer is no but we really hope that you will take this time to walk across the stage and receive your diploma. We know it is not the graduation that everyone was hoping for. However, we do feel it is important for you to receive your diploma in BHS's traditional way. We will not be mailing out diplomas. You will need to make arrangements with the school to pick it up your diploma if you choose not to attend graduation at the Main Office on Monday or Tuesday June 22nd-23rd with the school.
Q - WILL THE CEREMONY BE LIVE STREAMED?
A - Our ceremony will not be lived stream due to the 5 hours we are anticipating it taking to award the diplomas to all the graduates. However, we are putting together a recorded version of graduation that will be released June 19th in the evening for all grads and families to watch online. This recording will have the speeches by the top 4 students the principal's monologue, the Guest Speakers message, the Governor's General, Birk's and the Don McKay Leadership Awards, as well as all the graduate's pictures with awards received.
Q - WHEN WILL GRADUATES FIND OUT IF THEY RECEIVED A LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP?
A - Graduates would find out if they received a local scholarship at the same time, they receive their diploma. The Kent Scholarship recipients are released over the summer months.
Q - HOW WILL WE RECEIVE THE PICTURES TAKEN BY THE SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHERS?
A - Currently we are working on a plan to address this. More information will be available later.
Q - WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO GRADUATION?
A - Grads can wear their Prom outfit if they choose to. However, upon entering the school we would like the grads to put on their Graduation Gown to receive their diploma. If you are not wearing your Prom outfit, we ask that you dress in appropriate attire with no jeans, no hoodies, no t-shirts etc. It would be best to wear a sundress, pants, collared shirt, tie etc., something dressy as your Grad Gown only covers so much.
Q - IS THERE AN AREA FOR PICTURES WITH OTHER GRADS?
A - Unfortunately, we cannot provide an area for Grads to gather. In our picture areas families will not have a lot of time and staff will not be able to handle someone's camera or phone to take a picture due to the health restrictions. Grads will have the grad gowns from Monday - Friday to take pictures. BHS also placed a sign on King Ave congratulating the Class of 2020. Please feel free to have a picture taken next to this sign.
Q - WILL FAMILIES BE ALLOWED TO SIT DOWN IN THE THEATER.
A - Unfortunately, families will not be allowed to sit down in the theater due to health restrictions.
Q - IS THERE A WASHROOM FACILITY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC
A - The washroom at BHS will be closed due to health restrictions.
